You do not have to become confident before you begin
When I was ten, I had a teacher called Jenny.
She believed in my writing. She encouraged my poems and stories, and one day she told me I was going to be a writer, a real professional one. She was the only adult in my childhood who gave me that vision.
As soon as I learned how to write, I filled diaries with stories about animals and fantasy worlds. But around that age, an inner critic moved in too, and I started getting stuck.
Jenny’s voice stayed with me anyway.
I’m 46 now and I’ve written more than 60 books. I can still feel her warmth when I think of her. That is what one person believing in you can do.
